Pernice Brothers: Pop in Sunlight and Shadows

Pernice Brothers' back catalogue is one of pop music's great, largely undiscovered treasures.   Founded in 1996 after the breakup of Massachusetts-based alt-country outfit Scud Mountain Boys, the group released its first album, Overcome by Happiness , in 1998.   After leaving Sub Pop and forming his own label, Ashmont Records, in 2000, lead man/songwriter Joe Pernice and his cohorts have continued to produce album after album of beautifully melancholic music, touching on love, desperation, heartbreak and forgiveness.

Over the past fifteen years, Sloan have been the bubble-grunge “next big things” in Canada, cult heroes in Halifax, power-pop heroes to an even smaller cult in the United States, label-less, and label bosses.
